Hume pipe classes

Pipes rated for the load above them

RCC pipes to IS 458, supplied with collars and rubber rings. Class is chosen by the depth of cover and the traffic loading over the line . Tell us the trench detail and we will advise.

NP2 150 – 1200 mm Non-pressure lines under light cover, outside carriageways : field drains and yard drainage.

NP3 150 – 1800 mm The standard for road crossings and municipal storm water under normal traffic loading.

NP4 300 – 1800 mm Heavy traffic loading, deep cover and highway culverts where crushing strength matters.

Collars & rings All sizes Matching collars and rubber sealing rings supplied with the line so joints are made properly.

Paver selection

Thickness is chosen by what drives over it

The commonest paving failure on site is an 60mm block laid where a loaded truck turns. Pick by traffic, not by budget, and get the bedding sand and edge restraint right underneath.

Bedding sand, edge kerbs and joint filling sand, so the laid area performs the way the block is rated.

Masonry blocks

AAC and fly ash, and when each one earns its place

AAC is lighter and insulates better, fly ash is denser and cheaper per unit. On a tall frame the dead load saved by AAC pays for itself in steel and foundation. On a boundary or a service block, fly ash usually wins.

Thin bed mortar goes with AAC

Laying AAC in ordinary sand cement mortar throws away most of its thermal advantage and doubles the joint thickness. We supply the mortar with the blocks.

AAC blocks

Autoclaved aerated concrete

Roughly a third the weight of solid masonry, with far better thermal performance. Cuts dead load on the frame and cooling load on the building.

Fly ash bricks

Class designation to IS 12894

Denser and dimensionally truer than table moulded clay brick, with less mortar wastage and no topsoil consumed in the making.

Solid concrete blocks

Dense aggregate

For load bearing walls, retaining work and anywhere the wall has to carry rather than just divide.

Hollow blocks

Cored, lighter section

Faster to lay and lighter per square metre, with cores that take vertical reinforcement and services.

How they're made

Precast is only as good as its curing

Most failures in precast are traceable to under-cured concrete or a reinforcement cage in the wrong place. Both are process problems, so we control the process rather than inspect the outcome.

Cage jigs

Reinforcement cages made on jigs so cover is the same in every unit.

Vibration control

Table and needle vibration timed to consolidate without segregating the mix.

Water curing

Full curing period in the tank or under cover before anything is loaded out.

Mould maintenance

Steel moulds checked and re-trued, because a worn mould shows in every cast.

Batch tracing

Each lot recorded against the concrete batch it was cast from.

Load testing

Three-edge bearing and strength tests to the relevant IS code on sample units.

Before you order

Which pipe class do I need?

It depends on the depth of cover and the traffic over the line. NP2 for light duty away from roads, NP3 for most municipal and road-crossing work, NP4 for heavy loading and deep cover. Send the trench section and we'll confirm.

What paver thickness should I order?

60mm for footpaths and light pedestrian areas, 80mm for driveways and car parking, 100mm and above for yards taking loaded trucks. Bedding sand and edge restraint matter as much as thickness.

Do you make items to drawing?

Yes. Chambers, covers, boundary panels and special sections are cast against your drawing, with the reinforcement detail you specify. Mould cost and lead time depend on the quantity.

How long is the lead time?

Standard items in stock go out within a day or two. Made-to-order items depend on mould availability and curing . Typically two to three weeks, and we'll tell you before you commit.

Can you install as well as supply?

For drainage lines and precast boundary systems, yes. We can quote supply-only or supply-and-lay, and we'll price the unloading arrangement either way.

Do you supply AAC block mortar too?

Yes, thin-bed mortar is supplied along with the blocks. Using ordinary sand-cement mortar on AAC wastes the block's advantages, so they go together.
